The opposition Congress party workers sold onions at Rs 40 per kilogram at Master Canteen Square here to protest against the unprecedented increase in prices of onions.

However, people are permitted to take 250 grams of onion by paying Rs 10.

Asserting that the rising cost of vegetables, particularly onion has influenced the family unit spending plan in a major manner over the State, the protestors requested prompt proactive measures to check the rising cost of the fundamental item.

Costs of onions in the previous two days have shot up to Rs 100 for each kilogram in a few pieces of the State including State capital Bhubaneswar.

"Under the BJP system average citizens are the most noticeably terrible sufferers. The Central Government is neither ready to tune in to the requests of the ordinary citizens nor taking measures to check the exceptional increment in costs of onions. So we chose to purchase onions and sell them at Rs 40 for every kg to the people," said one of the protestors.
