Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday morning met Karnataka Congress leader DK Shivakumar in Tihar jail and enquired about his health.

Shivakumar, 57, was captured by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on September 3 out of a tax evasion case. He is held up in Tihar correctional facility under legal care.

As per sources, Gandhi was joined by Congress general secretary Ambika Soni.

Shivakumar, a seven-time MLA in Karnataka, was reserved alongside Haumanthaiah - a worker at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi - and others for supposed offenses under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The case depended on a charge sheet documented by the Income Tax Department against them a year ago under the watchful eye of an exceptional court in Bengaluru on charges of supposed tax avoidance and ''hawala'' exchanges worth crores of rupees.
