Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday once again put his weight behind former India teammate and captain Sourav Ganguly, who is all set to take charge as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) next week.

Ganguly was the lone candidate who applied for the top job earlier this week and will be elected unopposed at the Indian cricket board's Annual Generam Meeting on October 23.

"The way he played his cricket, the way he has gone out and served the nation, I have no doubt that he will continue to serve the nation in the same capacity and same manner with the same passion," Tendulkar said on the sideline of the launch of Road Safety World Series.

Tendulkar had earlier congratulated Ganguly after he filed his nomination papers to become the new BCCI boss earlier this week.

"Congrats on being elected the @BCCI President, Dadi. I am sure you will continue to serve Indian Cricket like you always have! Best wishes to the new team that will take charge," Tendulkar had tweeted.

Ganguly, who played 113 Tests and 311 one-day internationals and led India to 21 Test wins, has already been an administrator for his home state association.

He was part of the BCCI's technical panel in the past and also part of a three-member Cricket Advisory Committee, alongside Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.

Ganguly said he had never aspired to be BCCI chief but hoped his experience as a former captain would stand him in good stead.

"We have lot of things to do, to get the administration in order. Cricket on the field has been brilliant for India, the team has played exceptionally well.

"My biggest focus will be first-class cricket. I have been very vocal on looking after first-class players because that's your base, that's your strength," Ganguly had said after filing his nomination papers at the BCCI headquarters on Monday.
